The Fieseler Fi developed and tested at Peenemunde research center for the German Air Force during the World War II became the first long-range guided . On June 13, , Nazi Germany unleashed a new type of weapon: The Fieseler Fi “flying bomb,” a small, pilotless, medium-range cruise missile. Late in the war several piloted V-1s were built. The plan was that a pilot would guide the missile into position close to its target and bail out at the last moment.

Fieseler Fi R Reichenberg – Desperate Times, Desperate Measures in – Aces Flying High

Flight instruments within the cockpit were kept to the necessary minimum and consisted of a clock, speed indicator, altimeter, turn and bank indicator, gyrocompass and of course a switch to arm the warhead. It was envisaged they could be used against the Allied invasion force in the west and fieseeler Soviet targets in the east. There were numerous crashes during test flights and even famed test pilot Hanna Reitsch crashed them on a number fu occasions.

Sanity in an insane world of violence and destruction had prevailed! This display gives you a great appreciation of the desperation in developing such a weapon as a fieesler missile and also the difficulty any poor pilot would have had getting out of the Fi R! Like Liked by 1 person.

Like Liked by 2 people. This was very insightful. I did not know they had created this aircraft.

Do you know any other museums where they might still have a full-size version of the plane? From Wikipedia — Aircraft on display: Thankfully they just abandoned the design but the problems were mainly related to the landing speed.

Height of madness in the end as the design was a deathtrap but an interesting page in history none the less! You are commenting using your WordPress.

I would think after repeated crashes in testing that dramatic engineering changes would be made? Thankfully they just abandoned the design but fiieseler problems were mainly related to the landing speed Like Liked by 1 person.
